Striker’s Tales: Coast Longboarding MedTech First Aid. He was saved!!
Well it’s that’s time of year again and I like to call it “SPRING BREAK” !!! Tis the season to be getting all brushed up or trained in the master art of First Aid. With all this skating we do we all know accidents happen and nothing better to take a crash knowing that the crew your skating with has taken their Med Tech Coast Longboarding First Aid Course and are qualified to prop you on that rock until the air ambulance can lift you to the nearest hospital roof top where they will save your life so you can skate another day.
It’s been a blast holding these courses over the years and our instructor Doug House is a beauty. He customizes the courses so not only are we learning everything we need to know to follow the guidelines of a course but he also adds very important things geared towards our style of injury’s including safe helmet removal. Here’s our instructor Doug House!!
The course is a two day eight hour course that includes your books and all the skills you need to save your friends or in many cases strangers!
This year like every year, Cariboo Brewing kicks in a bunch of shwag to everyone that signs up so that’s always a added bonus for the Boo fans because they got spoiled!
You gotta love the impact this course has on the coast community. After the completion of the course, Ben and Eleanor woke up in their Abbotsford home to some screaming outside. It couldn’t have worked out any better for the guy that was in the bush in the back behind their house unconscious, not breathing without any pulse. Eleanor and Ben took turns giving the man CPR until the ambulance came and they were able to hand him off to the paramedics. The guys name was Mike and he’s alive today!
Here’s a shot of Eleanor all muddy and I’m guessing drained in the back of the ambulance getting checked up after the life saving CPR session in the bush with Ben. This is Ben sporting his new Coast First Aid patch at the Loose Tooth show this past weekend sick Ben!
I gotta say it gives me goose bumps knowing this course has helped save at least two lives that I know of out of the seventy Coasties trained. Proud is the word and I expect nothing less from all the kick ass riders that take and pass this course. Thanks to you all!! Thanks to Doug!! Pacific Heights Co-op and Patricia we did it again. Thank you Jonny and Manu for the Pictures! Ben and Eleanor for saving a life!
