Striker’s Tales: My Attack of Danger Bay Highlights
Danger Bay Business class is dirty! It’s a dog eat dog world and in the top picture you see Mitch the model unload a briefcase full of pinecones and banana peels the picture under that you see Bean pay the ultimate price in business…. failure!!
This years Attack of Danger Bay was another year closer to the twentieth annual event and it couldn’t have been more special! This year would be the last year that I would be on the West Coast to pull this event together because next year at this time we will have opened up the Coast Longboarding world headquarters, Downhill Museum and Hostel in Cape North, 29295 Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island!!
What an absolute trip this all is andnone of you even know how busy i am! We’re all busy over here! Patricia is taking care of the kids, packing, running the preschool and writing news letters. Patricia’s dad has already sold all his stuff and has moved to the Church to help get the beast fixed up enough for us to move in by winter with my grandpa Don.
I’ve been busy organizing Attack of Danger bay, planning and organizing the 2017 Cribb-Bomb tour schedule and season. I’ve been building posters promoting the tour and getting them out worldwide for riders to start dreaming! I’ve been working on the last big cross American “Striker’s Farwell Cribb bomb tour”, I’ve been getting the Cribb in tip top shape, I’ve been writing Striker Tales, I’ve been trying to be a father to my kids and of course play a bit of music. I have been also trying to organize crews to help fix the church and everything else that comes with buying a church for coast and our family. I’m not going to lie! I’ve never had so much on my plate and it’s nuts but this has to be the worst of it. Keep pushing ahead, but whens a guy got time for his health, eh?
So yeah, Danger Bay sixteen was for a lot of people the best Danger Bay in years. This is all I’ve heard from everyone that came up to me during and after the event. The people that wanted to be there, that cared to be there, were there. It was our community that was there this year and it was good to see and very refreshing for all of us. I wanted to take this opportunity to share with all you Striker tales fans some of my favorite 2017 Danger bay moments and highlights!! So here we go!
Anytime you have a good solid crew to help with all the beer and the hay the Wednesday leaving Vancouver for the sunshine coast your blessed this year we had another incredible crew!
Somehow while gassing up near the American border we lost Daisy Girl! While I drove the crew to go get hay, Daisy Girl was lost in Canada. It wasn’t long till border patrol caught the Yankee “border jumper” and cuffed his ass. With all his identification on the Cribb with me, it made it quite tricky to get Daisy’s wrists out of those cuffs but everything worked out and we saved her!
We got to the coast on the Wednesday night after all the hay, and Thursday about four twenty in the afternoon we headed out for the Rainforest cruise and the Egmont Big Air!! I love this event!! Its not really promoted but its for anyone who shows up early that get to enjoy this treat!
The Egmont Grind always ends at the government dock in Egmont. After one hell of a push, you get to launch yourself off the mainland into the Pacific Ocean. This year we had three scuba divers!! This was the first year the whole event felt safe. I love that.
Island Luke took not one, but two dock crashes in a row. I never seen that in the history of running this event but he’s a tough man and this isn’t road rash this is wood rash!!
every year we bring up this old sink and the champion launches it back into the chuck for next years winner! Congratulations to Ben the stripper on his big win, Bam took second and Island Luke gets a Coast bronze!
I guess DGM mag is stoked to have their December picture all lined up for the 2017 downhill calendar. Daisy girl picture of the guys drying off with their Cariboo towels eh!?
its always a busy time for me, but I always got a run in with Scooter every year on the dump road. Daisy girl loved that.
Thursday is a great time to work on signs! Here’s my girl Billie Rose getting some painting time at the camp.
Love this shot that Daisy Girl took of me and Irene from Team Irene having a moment. Irene and her team are the Danger Bay gate keepers we couldn’t run this event without them its incredible the amount of time they put on the gate all weekend long to keep the spirit alive at Danger Bay.
The racers camp is where all the magic happens including the dirt race!
including camping, bands and the family reunion!!
WI loved this year! we stayed up all night on the Friday and for the first year in sixteen years we didn’t run the slide comp at seven in the morning. This year that waited until two in the afternoon after the parade and skate hockey!! But there was no sleeping in for me because bright and early “the Meatball” my good buddy made sure I was up early to go for a skate. He picked me up and we drove to Garden Bay for a few bombs. This shot is a screenshot taken by Guff of Me and the Meatball on Sinclair Bay Road!!
What a way to wake up! After some killer runs with “the Meatball” I got in the Cribb Bomb and headed to the Pender Harbour Mayday Parade for the first time ever. Normally we hit the parade in the U-Haul but this year was even better we rolled in the Cribb-Bomb! Nice pre parade shot waiting for our turn thanks to Rosanne Onboard’s shot.
Skate Hockey rules!! This year we decided to chuck sticks in the middle and ill tell ya it was the best game we had in years!! Is it just me or does Theobald always end up on the winning team?
Chase was a dynamite goalie for the skins, but you should keep your head up when King Brian is in the cage! He loves nothing more than to lay out a few bodies. The King is one of Danger Bay’s top sponsors (Andres Welding and Machining) so he wants to make sure he’s getting his money’s worth eh!?
This years slide comp was judged by King Brian and K-Rimes and that’s it from now on there will be secret judges of my choice. Over the years I’ve gotten too much flack for having these judges and most people go on to tell me they think its rigged so as of now were putting a stop to that!!
It was perfect running the slide comp at two o’clock Saturday! We got more sliders and more spectators! Wolf got the crash of the day!!! Thanks Noah pics for the flicks!!
This years Danger Bay was hot, dry, and sunny for the fifth straight year!! That’s almost too good to be true!
Landyachtz set up the new “Get In The Van 2” Premier of the camp to enjoy! It was the perfect spot for a Saturday night drive in theater performance
There was some confusion and the Dayglos Abortions showed up on the Saturday this year but were suppose to play on the Sunday!? But all was good just made for a killer Saturday night but race day always comes early especially after a Dayglo Abortions set..
I got The Church of Skatan hoodies and was happy they turned out sick as ever!! if you want to help us renovate and open The Church of Skatan!! Coast Longboarding Museum and hostel then all you need to do is head over to http://www.flatspotlongboards.com/
They are a certified Coast dealer and are taking care of all the orders and shipping for me…. These guys are always above and beyond for me for Coast and our whole community! Thank you Flatspot!
Race day couldn’t have been any better, and what a day for a surprise wedding!! Wes Sampson, after thirty years and already being denied her hand once got on his knees once again and with the help of Doug House, an ordained minister, and the Coast Longboarding community, we pulled this one off quite nicely I must say! Congratulations to the Sampson family!! This was most definitely a Danger Bay to remember!! Here are a couple shots from Daisy Girl capturing the moment!
This year racing was unreal!! K-Rimes was going for the Danger Bay Dynasty win. He already won four Danger Bays in a row so just one more and he would make downhill history! Not only did you he win five years in a row, but this is his seventh all time Danger Bay win and if he wins the next two years he will have won half of the Danger Bay races!!??? Nuts! I can still brag it’s the hardest race to win in the world but only now because you need to beat K-Rimes to do it!! Unreal! Congratulations Krimes!! Sick DGM Mag shots! Here’s a handful more! Follow Downgrade Magazine on Instagram
Yardwaste Troy trying to fight through the ranks doing anything for a chance to tangle with K-Rimes but he was eliminated and never got the chance…always next year eh!?
Business Class stole the show at this years Danger Bay. K-Rimes wasn’t too happy we took half his money and gave it to the Business Class defending champion Hugh Johnston but we need to start mixing it up and paying out this cash all over the board.
It pays to race the Danger Bay business class and it doesn’t cost you anything to enter both classes! There is Open and Business so you have two chances to win some cash, but you might need to work a little harder if you already got the opens class in the bag. Here’s a couple of Lori’s pics follow her on instagram!!
Everyone I talked to loved the business class and wished they knew that they could have raced it too. What’s a guy to do? The poster even had a racer racing in a business suite that said business class!! How much more obvious do I need to be here? Then we got Noah Fischer!! He came out again and once he was eliminated we got to see some shots from his camera! Follow Noah Fischer on Instagram
The Park Tek crew snapped some bangers of the business class!
Business class is worth having racing!! This year the winner got $500 bucks, Seven sets of Coast Metals, And a sick custom Tuxedo!!! The business class is here to stay at Danger Bay so all you need to enter is a two-piece suite, a briefcase, tie and a helmet!! This is Kibbling getting sized up after the race!!! Now this is a true businessman!!!
So I better see you all next year and ready to take another crack at some of the cash in that briefcase!! Craig from Steep Shot Photo took some sick Business class pics follow him on Instagram too eh!!
After racing Attack of Danger Bay every year since she was just twelve years old, it was super cool to see little Anna top of the ladies podium as the Champion!!! It’s moments like these!
Team Irene takes the win in the Jr Class this year!!
Wes Sampson took the Masters class, with Lee Dansie leading the charge by a long shot in the finals just as he was eaten up by the famous Carnage Corner!! Wes Sampson for the win!! He got the girl and he got the gold medal!! What a huge day for Wes!! Shnitzel took second place racing in his fifteenth year!! And old school Coast longboarder Kool K also in his fifteenth year of racing takes third place earning his first ever coast metal in two decades of being a Coastie!! Love that!
In the dirty thirties class Billy Bones defends his title!!
And of course Mr. Danger Bay himself wins seven big ones and five in a row!! Last four years the Viking has not been able to solve Mr. Danger Bay. The pride of Pender Harbour Danger Dane from Team Irene fresh off a huge win in China and Salt spring Island found himself in third place!
Some other sick shots from Steep shot Photos was Leemo Dansie fighting with Carnage Corner and himself this past Danger Bay! The man the legend the warrior! This man rules!!! Broken hand, broken face and Thirteen years later welcome back to Danger Bay Leemo!
Team Irene and Danger Dane are no joke so better bring your “EH” game eh!? Daisy Girl shot!
Lori takes this shot of her son Raggie Team Green thrashin’ and Sandman crashin’!!
The ladies rule!! And so does Dansie!!
This year we had lots of help cleaning the race site and getting all the hay in the truck. Huge thanks to my hay crew!! Clean up is always the part I dread so thank you everyone that grabbed a bail or helped clean up! After the race we always end up at the camp for more shenanigans, bands and the Danger Thrill show presented by Flatspot Longboards this year!
We had two days off, so after a big clean, Scoot and his family along with Carol hosted us a huge BBQ!! We ate so much you would drive you mad!! Scoot was still cooking when we left!!
The next day it was to the Jakes Rash Freeride for the Tuesday and the big Jakes Road Rash Rumble on the Wednesday!!
If you don’t think you can beat K-rimes at Danger Bay then don’t think you can beat the Mighty Viking at the Rash!!!! Danger bay cash was spread out through the classes but the payday was bigger at the rash!!!
Huge thanks to Patricia & the kids all my volunteers, Team Irene, Team Green, anyone who stacked hay or picked up garbage! My security crew, Bamford Designs, C Nugz, Lions Club and the Rotary Club, The residents on the race hill, My sound crew, my U-Haul drivers, all my photographers and videographers, my Ambulance and first aid crew, my registration and web crew, my race marshals, my garbage crew, my food crew, my bus drivers, my course workers and flaggers, my t-shirt sellers, my scuba divers, my mechanics, artists, the band’s, skate hockey players, sliders, AND OUR RACERS AND FREERIDERS!!
