Striker’s Tales: Bull Mountain Boarder-X 2011
Every year in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Coast Longboaridng holds a snowboard race in the Cariboo Country like none other in all of Canada. You might find a race like this on your local ski mountain but this race is on an open road that isn’t plowed or groomed to perfection like you might be used too. Last year racers dealt with very icy fast dangerous conditions but this year was very different with lots of snow lots of deep ruts from trucks getting stuck and a blizzard!

You wont get the luxury’s of ski patrol, speed patrol or bamboo fencing at this race and if you crash off the road you will get luxury of some sharp barbed wire fencing and nice round tree trunks making this race the most extreme.
This past Boxing Day an extreme group of out of town and local snowboarders got together to race the 2nd annual Bull Mountain Boarder-Cross Challenge & Potluck the Williams Lake snowboarders defended their territory sweeping the podium with top four fastest racers. Racers started at the top of the mountain with six to eight man heats all at once while eliminating the last racer in each heat to make up the final race. The racing was hot with stiff competition. Racers experienced lots elbow rubbing, contact and crashes.

We use big 4×4 Cariboo country Ford and Chevy trucks to shuttle racers from the bottom of the mountain to the radio tower starting line at the top of the mountain. Most the trucks we used had good winter tires but we still ran into problems along the way.
Our first practice run we had to blaze a whole new trail to the top of the mountain for fresh tracks. It made for tricky driving and after spinning out then reversing while smoking and burning some clutch we cooked some rubber to make it to the top and the racers were awarded with a practice run before we started racing.

I enjoyed a nice cold Boo Cream Ale while enjoying an impressive view from the starting line with the famous country skies and huge winter white tipped Cariboo mountains in the distance. Paradise and to top it off it was dumping snow.

These were the Williams Lake heroes that prevailed in the Bull Mountain Boarder Cross Challenge! 1st place Averil Foster, 2nd Place Dave Readman, 3rd place was Dennis Chappel and 4th place was Marcel Rochefort.

Thanks to our sponsors Red Shreds, Landyachtz Longboards, Diamonds & Dust, Lavender Lingerie, Cariboo Brewing & Coast Longboarding We gave away cash, longboards, and winter gloves, hoodies, t-shirts, medals and Boo!
After the race our wild podium and some broken ribs it was time to relax in the clean dry crisp fresh winter Cariboo air. We enjoyed a blazing bush winter fire fed with pallets and stumps to keep us all warm. Fans and racers scarfed Hotdogs and other foods down while trying all the flavors of what Cariboo Brewing had to offer us and even the new Cariboo Light!

We decided to do some fun runs before dark, well, I didn’t because I still have stiches in my smokie so I took it easy and good thing because the three trucks that went up never came down till the moonlight came up and all the beer was with us at the bottom. All three trucks got stuck red neck style. Trucks deep in the ditches, deep in the snow in pitch black. Tires were flat and were needed to be replaced deep in the elements, trucks were dented. After all that got figured out we were still pulling cars out of the snow at the bottom of the hill aswell. In total five trucks and cars got stuck but we got them all out without me blowing a stitch.

The final Bull Mountain Boarder Cross Challenge Revenge Race starts New year’s day @ noon bring $20 bucks and your snowboard and helmet. It will be bigger and I bet faster! Were going to have longboards, Cariboo Brewing Shirts, cash and a snowboard to give away! Don’t miss new years day Coast Snowboarding’s Revenge Race!

Mom broke her leg and was sent to hospital in Kamloops so that’s where we had Christmas this year. She’s healing and I’m healing. I got a new Penis for Christmas!
