What’s Crackin’: Over the Holidayz
Happy Holidays to all my fellow Cariboo drinkers!! It’s that time of the year to get together with your loved ones and crack a shorty of Cariboo. Since the holidays can be busy with buying gifts, cooking turkey dinner and spending time with the fam, I thought I would let you know about some of the festivities going on in the city.
1. Ice Skating at Robson Square
Grab your skates, a backpack of boo, and a buddy and head down to Robson square. The rink is small and crowded, but the lights are pretty and best of all: it’s free! My little tip- go late at night to avoid running over small children. It’s also quite entertaining to watch people fall.
2. Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain

Grouse Mountain has a multitude of Christmas activities including outdoor ice skating, Santa’s workshop, carollers, mountaintop sleigh rides, and breakfast with Santa. Perfect for families and couples, but you gotta pay a pretty penny to do the good stuff.
3. Bright Nights in Stanley Park
One of the most popular Vancouver events, so buy your tickets early! Take a train ride through Stanley Park and enjoy two million twinkling lights, animated displays and holiday choirs. If you don’t get your tickets in time, you can still walk around and see the displays while sipping a hot chocolate (or a Cariboo).
Aside from these family/couple outings, there were also some dope hip hop events over the holidays. On Dec. 21, 2011, DIPT and The Donnelly Group presented Christmas Rappin’ 2 at Bar None. The night featured performances by Chin Injeti and the Hasting Set, Swollen Members, Killa Watt Records, Defenders of the Faith, and Kyprios and all proceeds went to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Vancouver‘s hip hop heavyweights + charity= you can’t go wrong. On Boxing Day, R & B Karaoke went down at Fortune Sound club. Hosted by DJ Flipout, the Xmas edition marked the third R & B Karaoke. The event continues to grow and follow the footsteps of Hip Hop Karaoke.
Where can you find Baby Boo on NYE? Not sure yet. Somewhere in Whistler or Vancouver drinking copious amounts Honey Lager Boo. Cheers! Happy New Year!
