What’s Crackin’: Show Tips
These are my, You can quote me on it, words of advice for those of you tryin’ to make it on the small venue home circuit:
- DO mention the name of the town you are performing in while you are on stage. People love to hear a shout out to their home city from an out of town artist
- DO allow 15 minutes between sets for a smoke break. The majority of people in small towns are smokers and if you don’t give a gap in performances, you will lose your crowd for the beginning of your set
- DO expect the crowd to be wasted. Baby sitters aren`t cheap, so when parents go out, then go hard!
- DO bring a sense of humour. If you are open to a change from the city, you will find the experience entertaining and rewarding
- DO make friends with your fans. Small town folk are much friendly than big city kids
- DO have CD`s and merchandise available for purchase. Although most fans can`t afford it, the people that can want something to remember you by
- DON’T expect fancy stage lights and high quality sound. You are lucky if you get a sound engineer
- DON’T buy your own drinks. You are new in town and people are more than happy to welcome you to their city with a drink
- DON’T book a hotel room until you actually check out the hotel. Some hotels are gross and you are better off sleeping on a fan`s couch
- DON’T expect to hook up with any hotties. The few good looking people in small towns are married with kids or have moved to the big city
- DON’T start a fight. But I guarantee a bar fight will break out at every small town show
