My homegirl Jith hooked Juliet and I up tickets to the Vanier Cup tailgate party on Friday. Pregame, we started the party with UBC alumni and players from the other university teams in the box at BC Place Stadium. McMaster dominated the first half was leading the game 23-0. Laval made a wicked comeback in the second half and tied the game up at 31. McMaster had a chance to win the game with a field goal attempt with 3 seconds to go, and missed from the 30 yard line! Buddy sitting beside us almost had a heart attack. In overtime, Mcmaster ended up sealing the deal and won 41-38. Dope game for the CIS final.

In the midst of torrential downpour, people gathered for the Grey Cup parade and street parties downtown Vancouver. The crowds were an interesting mix of BC Lions fans, cowboys and fat men dressed in green. All the pubs and restaurants were packed for Grey Cup parties in excitement for the big game. I actually ended up getting Seahawks tickets for Sunday, so I headed down to Seattle with my bro. Who can pass up club seat at the 50 yard line? Sorry CFL, but watching the Grey Cup on the couch doesn’t compare to a live NFL game. The Seahawks were leading 17-10 entering the 4th quarter but the Redskins came back to win the game 23-17. The Seahawks face the Eagles on Thursday, which should be a killer game.

Back at BC Place Stadium, the BC Lions faced the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Lions outplayed the Blue Bombers in the first half; a touchdown by Harris and 2 field goals by McCallum put the Lions ahead 14-0. The Bombers answered back with 3 field goals mid game, but the Lions kept the pressure on with Lulay throwing a beautiful 66 yard touchdown pass to Johnson in the third quarter. The Bombers added some excitement to the game scoring 2 touchdowns late in the game, but the Lions defeated the Bombers 34-23 and won the 2011 Grey Cup. Lulay was named the game’s MVP.
