Striker’s Tales: B.C. Rules! Hot Springs! Rocky Mountain Tour!
One of the best trips of the year is the Rocky Mountain Tour!
It’s normally a week long tour jam packed full of skate and exploring British Columbia and Alberta’s hot springs, lakes, rivers, tourist traps, national parks and all the cool villages, cities, and towns in between!!
One thing you’ll notice is we got quite the pine beetle problem here in the BC and Alberta region so it makes me happy to know that the company I’m supporting and writing this blog for is committed to planting a million trees by planting one tree for every case of boo sold!! Rad!
We got to Kelowna and knew we needed to load up on supplies if we were going to be in the mountains for a few days and would you believe it!? We ran into my uncle in a busy shopping mall parking lot. He’s a free spirit just like me.
He also roams from town to town ,river-to-river, and lake-to-lake fishing, enjoying nature living in campsites selling fruit in the summer. Retired life is great! Uncle loves Cariboo and it’s so funny! I don’t know his phone number but we always run into each other on the road. I told him we were going to camp for a couple nights at a hot springs few hours down the way but he told me he was busy for now and maybe next time.
We stopped in Vernon to say hi to some locals. We love stopping in towns and meeting the people of British Columbia! Free stickers, and if they tag cariboo on instagram or facebook we hook them up with hats!! Sweet deal!
Ever since we lost the Vernon DH, people got into extreme highway scooter action. I know that we’re allowed on the highways but what’s up with these things?!?
After Vernon, we sneak down highway six, I think it is… and that’s where well find lots of blood bombs, or dear some people call them and it’s a very tricky section of highway! We counted eight or nine deer hiding in the ditches, behind bushes just waiting to jump out and wreck our trip. We even came around corners to pack of deer on the road. It pays to drive the speed limit and if it’s raining, I’ll go 10km slower than the limit to be extra safe. Love the few runs along the way on this route!
we got to the hot springs and found a pretty sick spot to park. It was crazy the amount of work BC Parks did here. They cleared out a whole bunch of new sites and cleaned the place right up!
This is the full time park ranger Bob Moody he’s a young guy that did all the work in here himself taking care of the forest, keeping it clean and building new trails to the hot springs. If you read some of my past striker tales you would know that this place was getting really run down and disrespected. It would have been nice if BC Parks stayed out of this area but after seeing both sides of the coin I welcome them here.
Then my uncle showed up!! That was a nice surprise!
We gave Uncle Howie some Boo and he watched the Cribb for us while we went for a hike to find these springs in the woods, with a cooler packed full of PWB Beer of course!! When you join these tours there’s some skating but there’s a lot of living too it’s a great balance.
These are the good times!! We love British Columbia!!
We got to the bottom of the mountain and it was a nice surprise everything was clean and there was even some nice new tables to enjoy!
All the wood cut down to make camps and trails went into making the steps for the hike down the steep mountainside and these tables I’m guessing!?
Soon as we got to the springs by the river, Stumanchu, Chase, and the boys started fixing all the pools there was only one hot one and they made thee killer ones by the time they were done. A little hard work and some hoses you can make enough spots for everyone
Those pools got so hot you would be pretty thankful to have a fresh river to jump into and cool right down. Chase started up river and got himself a little float in get the heart pumping a bit.
Stu found a real healthy hole
We spent the night here and woke up refreshed and ready to take on the world. My uncle took off without saying goodbye, but we know he had a good night because the beer we gave him was gone and the battery to the Cribb–Bomb was dead dry. We were stuck in the woods pointing in the campsite with no way of getting a car in there to jump us.
Good thing we had camp caretaker Bob who is a local from the area living in the woods and ready to help. He pulled us out with the truck because even with ten of us we couldn’t push the Cribb out of that camp spot!
Once we got pulled out he got right to work on the battery connections sanding them down and cleaning them up then hooked us up to a charge and boy we had good luck because that did the trick! We promised Bob if he was still there next summer we would bring him a board for his daughter because she’s a skater too! Until then he got hooked up big time for all the hard work keeping the area the cleanest I’ve ever seen and getting us back on the road!!
I’m not going to lie. The 33 foot long Cribb bomb made it out alive but I had my doubts! We don’t seem to have luck way up this mountain because we normally don’t start hahaha! Nice narrow road to maneuver eh!?
On the dirt road down the mountain, I told the guys they should get out and skate this dirt hill. “If you don’t skate this run you’ll be the first crew in five years to just sit in the RV!! What are you doing here if your not going to skate!?” Well, Ben and Chase stepped up to the plate and gave it a rip. Mike Yardwaste knew what I was up to because he’s been on five years worth of trips so he just relaxed and watched the show.
It was a good show and always brings up the energy in the bus. Chase started down the rocky road and it makes me smile now just typing this stuff thinking about it.
Chase was just fine and both Ben and himself finished the run while we cheered them on the rest of the way getting some good laughs in while we were at it! That’s what its all about I tell ya! Check back in next week when we meet up with Rolf the Radium BC Wizard of Wood and Water while doing some more British Columbia skate and exploring!!
